AURA2023 report released

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care today released the fifth Australian report on antimicrobial use and resistance in human health (AURA2023).

Although the report found an overall all decrease in antimicrobial use (AU), the Commission warned against complacency, with AU in Australia hospitals substantially higher than in most if not all European countries.

Recommendations from AURA2023 include improvements to prescribing appropriateness, surveillance of infections in the community and aged care settings, informing consumers of the role and risks of antimicrobials in AMR, and supporting enhanced IPC capacity in aged care services.
