There are some interesting movements in various countries regarding the
lack of future research and development of new antibiotics and
antimicrobial agents, which may be of interest to list members. Two that
are currently prominent are one in the UK (http://antibiotic-action.com/
) and one based in Europe (http://www.reactgroup.org/ ).HICSIG also has resources concerning antimicrobials at
http://www.asid.net.au/hicsigwiki/index.php?titleCategory:AntibioticsThe ACSQHC also released Antimicrobial Stewardship in Australian
Hospitals 2011 earlier this year
(http://www.safetyandquality.gov.au/internet/safety/publishing.nsf/Conte
nt/PriorityProgram-03_Antimicrobial-Ss)All of these websites contain very useful information on the issues of
global antimicrobial resistance and the need for further development of
strategies to combat this as well as research into novel antimicrobial
agents. It would be good to see further discussion within Australia on
both of these topics from professional bodies.Cheers
