HI Jenny,
Most of our clinics are now using disposable linen. Clinics not using disposable linen send linen out to an external laundry service, usually only blankets are needed.
Generally blankets are kept for a week (if not soiled) in the individual patients lockers and then sent for cleaning at the end of the week.
Patients can bring in additional linen of their own which is kept in individual lockers and they take responsibility of cleaning their own linen.
We discourage using a sheet on the chair, that used to happen in the ‘old days’ when patients had material covered dialysis chairs and they are a risk for tripping and covering the chair controls.

Good afternoon everyone
I am currently looking at infection control practises in our day renal unit and updating our policy
Does anyone have any information on

1. linen usage in renal units
2. should linen be changed after each visit
3. if patient attends x3 weekly does their linen get stored, labelled and reused

I am not happy with current practise and wish to make some changes but require evidence to support my decision
Regards jenny
