Dear Gemma,

There will be a very heterogenous response from the Emergency Departments
in this area.

We use a video-laryngoscope (C-Mac) as the laryngoscope of choice. It is
not single use and is processed by CSSD between each use.
It is sent to CSSD with a patient sticker so records can be maintained.

As a second option we rarely use the standard MacIntosh or Miller blades
and these too are processed by CSSD.

My colleagues decided the “feel” of single use disposable blades was not
adequate – despite the far more reliable and bright light source. I plan to
revisit this as an option in the near future.
