WHO release new emergency alert framework

New WHO Framework to Strengthen Health Emergency Response

The World Health Organization has launched the National Health Emergency Alert and Response Framework — a practical guide to help countries better detect, respond to, and recover from health emergencies.

Co-developed with global experts and informed by lessons from COVID-19, this framework supports rapid, coordinated, multi-sectoral action to reduce harm during crises intensified by climate change, urbanisation, geopolitical shifts, and increased mobility.

Key features include:
✅ A unified global approach to emergency management
✅ Practical tools like checklists and flowcharts
✅ Clear stages from detection to operational review
✅ Integration of the 7-1-7 target for rapid outbreak detection and response
✅ Alignment with 300+ recommendations from HEPR reforms

With stronger preparedness comes greater resilience. This framework empowers national and subnational authorities to respond faster and save lives — whatever the threat, wherever it emerges.
