    Hi Annie,
Alcohol on its own need longer contact/wet times to effetely kill. Chlorhex has bactericidal and bacteriostatic mechanisms.

    This may help:
    Chlorhexidine/Povidone Iodine/Sodium Hypochlorite
Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic solution used since 1954 with a good record of safety and efficacy on adults and children with an incidence of contact dermatitis 2.5% to 5.4% (Lim & Kam, 2008; Milstone, Passaretti, & Perl, 2008). A meta-analysis of randomized, controlled trials showed no statistically significant difference in erythema from chlorhexidine to povidone iodine (Chaiyakunapruk, Veenstra, Lipsky, & Saint, 2002). Chlorhexidine is considered A-1 evidence for skin cleaning to prevent the spread of pathogens (Marschall et al., 2008). It is a broad-spectrum antiseptic and has persistent antimicrobial effect with a reduction in bacterial counts from 24 to 48 hours (Lim & Kam, 2008; NKF, 2006). A scrubbing motion of 30 seconds for routine skin cleansing is needed. Chlorhexidine works better in combination with alcohol and is superior to povidone iodine because it is not deactivated with body fluids, such as blood, serum, and protein (Chaiyakunapruk et al., 2002; Lim & Kam, 2008; Valles et al., 2008). Povidone iodine needs three to five minutes to reach maximum effect to reduce bacteria counts and has minimal persistent antimicrobial effect (Durani & Leaper, 2008).
