It is worth listening to +++ I think!

Some notes I made just now:

    * Goal to negotiate quarantine and isolation approach effectively amongst communities

    * Goal to reduce risk, not to zero – can never find all the cases or xmission chains; have to stop around 70% of xmission chains at R0 of 2.5

    * Asymptomatics have NOT been frequent and besides if they are within a transmission chain, they come to light due to symptomatic people. China has tested widely enough to know

    * Community education – explain likely phases – time of few cases vs time when broader xmission occurs and what will be done; explain worst case scenarios, explain virus and risks to encourage compliance with quarantine and isolation

    * Don’t soft pedal explanations of the virus and its impact

    * Build on / highlight selflessness of pop / HCWs

    * Explain the options and their adjustment; negotiate transparently with communities

    * Ensuring source control – mask cases, mask close contacts

    * Fever clinic operation – should we incorporate CT scanning. How should we categorise and followup on each tested person

    * Swab process (single swab) – under discussion nationally today – critical issue re availability of testing

    * Entry screening of all patients prior to hospital admission

    * Explicit entry screening of HCW presenting to work

    * Designation of COVID hospitals – became vip in China – saving lives focus. ARDS patients hard to keep alive. Concentrate patients, expertise, treatments in certain sites. It worked even in areas with low numbers. Used telehealth to walk rural hosp through case management .

    * Cohorting of staff who care for COVID necessary

    * Quarantining close contacts (define 24-48hrs prior to sx onset of case

    * IPC- HCW getting infected Q – three factors – i) rapid escalating cases – lack of preparation in the acute phase in Wuhan ii) real problems with PPE supply iii) presenteeism of sick HCWs (other side of overly committed HCWs) and sloppiness- confusion of COVID sx vs tiredness. NOW – very few HCW infections, China surveys HCW to check whether they are confident with PPE and protection

Thanks Donna, those are some excellent links.

If you want to see a media presentation but a sleep-deprived Dr Aylward on his return from China. It does contain very interesting information, but it is quite long and rambling at times.

    Hello everyone,

This email is going to everyone who registered for the 6th March webinar with Dr Bruce Aylward. https://youtu.be/reVadDRwy_A

There has been a huge demand for a link to the recording for those who missed it, and those who wanted to share it with their colleagues.

The facts and the sentiment expressed in this webinar, if acted upon, will save tens of thousands of Australian lives.

We are at a critical point in the response in Australia, luckily we have limited community transmission.

Intensive case detection, isolation and contact tracing can still work as it has in China – they reported only 20 cases on the 10th March.

Please share with your colleagues, with your friends and family. We need whole of community and whole of government response to control this virus over the ensuing months.

I will be forwarding some summary notes from the webinar soon. https://youtu.be/reVadDRwy_A Please share on facebook, twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Pinterest, Reddit etc

    Regards, Craig.
