The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is currently
developing video content and a poster on the correct use of Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE).To ensure the content created aligns with current best practice the RACGP is
seeking expert review and provision of feedback on the video story boards
and poster, as well as attending the filming session in Sydney next
Wednesday 26 February to ensure any spoken content is correct. The RACGP can
provide reimbursement for subject matter expertise at a rate of $160 per two
hour block. It is estimated there is approximately 4 hours of work in total.
An ABN will be required for payment and you will need to sign a statement of
works with the RACGP. Acknowledgement of participation can be included in
the video credits if desired. The specific details are below.
*Review of storyboards outlining donning and doffing of PPE and
initial review of poster content to be completed by Monday 24 February
(draft content will be provided on Thursday 20 February)
*Attendance at the filming session on Wednesday 26 February, to be
held within the general practice at Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney,
from 7pm – 9pm
*Final review of poster content to be completed by Thursday 5 March. We understand the timelines for this work are very short and any assistance
will be appreciated. For further information or to express your interest in providing assistance

Hi Sara,
This is a good move by the RACGP though they have given you very short
notice. I have been giving infection control CPD with Primary Health
Networks (PHNs) for general practices with application to the RACGP 5th ed
Infection Control Standards and 5th ed Accreditation standards.Whomever does the education session needs to pitch to a middle of the road
audience. There will be GPs, nurses and admin staff that will view the
content. I think the content on the DoH re safe use of PPE is pretty good.
One of the very good behavioural change outcomes from the swine flu epidemic
is that many patients will now self-select to wear mask if the cough, flu
symptoms and use hand sanitiser in going in & out of the practice. Many will
call ahead and inform the staff that they have flu like symptoms.
https://www1.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/safe-use-dvdI have been reading some of the ACPIC discussion around fit testing &
checking. Most general practices are small businesses and do not have the
resources to buy expensive fit test equipment. The PHNS are distributing P2
and patient masks to general practices. These have come from the national
stock pile as per AHHMPI. The delivery has been pretty efficient and
practice support teams are checking that practices have ongoing supplies. As
you know, getting supplies of hand gel has been a challenge. Masks a re
selling in our local pharmacies in southern Sydney for $7-10 each. The RACGP has a very good publication for general practices and other
similar PHC and small office facilities ‘ The RACG Pandemic Influenza
Toolkit’ written by former APNA president Judy Evans. There are resources
for all staff and discussions around IPC and forward planning business
continuity that can be applied to most infectious disease breakouts and
disasters. It relates to systems set up, staff training and even
recommending scripts for staff in doing the triage, telephone bookings etc.https://www.racgp.org.au/download/Documents/Disaster/pandemicflukit.pdf
Good luck
Cheers
