    Hello dear Infection Control colleagues,

I’m looking for some understanding about local policies regarding patient facing staff who are unable/choose not to have the flu vaccination. I care for a regional Acute Care facility (ED, Maternity, ICU etc), with no Aged Care component.
I do recognise in 2021 that legislation and guidance from the government will likely to be forthcoming, however I’d like to hear what are others doing this year. Obviously this is a multi-layered situation (i.e. COVID, Aged Care etc), but some of my questions below.
What can we do with our Category A & B staff who refuse/unable to have vaccination who are working in high-risk areas?
What can we do with our Category A & B staff who refuse/unable to have vaccination who are patient facing (in general)?
What do we do with staff who for medical reasons cannot have flu vaccine?
What advice for Category C staff who refuse/unable to have a flu vaccine?

Options we have considered: wear surgical mask for duration of flu season, redeploy to roles which are not patient facing, redeploy to roles which are low-risk patient facing, forced paid annual leave, forced unpaid annual leave, stood down etc.

Looking forward to hearing from the group!

    Kind regards,

    Fleur
