    Hi ACIPC Community:
Question for you all re peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC) management:

We are aware of several papers/reviews regarding the use of disinfecting caps on central line needleless connectors – however we would appreciate your feedback on the following questions:

    1. Has any facility implemented the routine use of disinfection caps for PIVCs? If you did – do you still recommend “scrub the connector” after the cap is removed and prior to the line being accessed? (sorry for the two part question) 🙂
    2. Do you have any evidence relating to effectiveness of this intervention and any supporting data relating to incidence of PIVC-related BSI?

We have found a discussion group thread that is also querying if disinfection caps on PIVCs maybe be a useful intervention for managing the risk of PIVC-related BSIs https://iv-therapy.net/topic/disinfectant-caps-peripheral-lines
…..however we would be interested to hear from ACIPC members about any facilities implementing this practice.

    Kind regards
    Sam Butenko
