> Dear Colleagues
> I have been requested to write a policy based on S6.3.4 Non Heat Labile RMD from AS/NZS41876:2014 and I am struggling with the content of the section being inconsistent with the title – I sincerely believe their is an error with the type setting, I have contacted some resource people for clarification but unfortunately they are currently overseas, I was recommended to contact Standards Australia however that did not end well as they were not interested in clarifying ambiguous andduplicitous content. So I have been advised to seek advice from industry bodies – and ACIPC was one of the professional bodies involved in the document drafting.
> Could I please receive advice on interpretation related to this section 6.3.4 – in my understanding after sourcing the key words and finding their definitions that the title is not related to the content below in the clause- why?
>
> for interest sake non heat labile means that the RMD is not affected by heat/does not change shape/be destroyed, the materials are non affected etc by application of heat hence would be classified under the standard requirements of being able to be thermally disinfected, sterilised either by moist steam or low temperature sterilisation etc so whether it was a semi-critical RMD its cleaning and sterilising process would be the same as a critical RMD therefore there would be no need for a specific policy related to this, it would follow a standard pathway. I understand it would not require special consideration as heat does not affect this semi-critical RMD.
>
> However Section 6.3.5 is about Heat Labile Semi Critical RMDs and the content of the above section (6.3.4) clearly related to this descriptor, I believe their is a disconnect.
>
> Every time I look at this Clause 6.3.4 Non Heat Labile Semi-Critical RMDs it does my head in. I have researched , referenced and re-checked the 2003 version of 4187 and also the 2012 draft of 4187 and at no juncture is this terminology used non heat labile semi-critical RMD.
> Can someone please end my misery and explain what the relevance of this clause is – I am more than happy to be educated regarding this aspect. I have a good grasp on the requirements related to reprocessing heat labile semi-critical RMDs – so please there is no requirement to describe that process.
> Thank You
