Health NZ Counties Manukau is seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our dedicated Infection, Prevention and Control Service.

This role is integral to ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence based care across Counties Manukau facilities by leading, developing, and implementing infection prevention and control programmes that reduce healthcare-associated infections and promote best practice.
As the CNS, you will provide clinical leadership, consultancy, and education across multiple clinical settings. You’ll collaborate with both clinical and non clinical settings, management, and community teams to promote patient safety and uphold Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora’s commitment to achieving health equity and Pae Ora (Healthy Futures).
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement infection prevention and control initiatives aligned with organisational strategy.
- Provide clinical advice on IP & C practices, surveillance, outbreak management, and risk reduction.
- Develop and evaluate policies, guidelines, and quality improvement activities to ensure compliance with national standards.
- Conduct surveillance using epidemiological principles to identify infection trends and implement prevention strategies.
- Conduct outbreak investigations and support pandemic preparedness and response planning.
- Support hand hygiene programmes, including training, auditing, and compliance monitoring in alignment with Hand Hygiene New Zealand.
- Act as a clinical leader and role model, supporting nursing excellence, education, and professional development.
- Understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and how they contribute towards developing culturally safe, equitable care for Maaori and all communities.
