In a major milestone in global IPC collaboration, ACIPC and IPC (the Infection Prevention Society) have formally endorsed APIC and IPAC Canada’s Ethical Infection Prevention and Control Decision-Making Framework.
The framework, released in March 2024, provides a structured approach to navigating complex ethical decisions in IPC, ensuring that professionals can uphold integrity, transparency, and equity in their work.
APIC and IPAC Canada released a joint statement:
“We are honoured to have the support of ACIPC and IPS.” “Their endorsement underscores the framework’s relevance and utility across diverse healthcare systems and cultural contexts.”
The framework is designed to support IPC professionals in making ethically sound decisions, particularly in high-stakes or resource-constrained environments. It addresses key principles such as autonomy, justice, beneficence, and non-maleficence, and offers practical tools for applying these principles in real-world scenarios.
