The presentation will outline best-practice approaches for managing single cases and responding to outbreaks, including defining an outbreak, implementing control measures, and coordinating with public health authorities. Designed for infection prevention professionals and clinical leaders, this talk focuses on actionable steps to protect residents and staff while ensuring compliance with national standards.

About the speaker: Yvonne Andrews is a Clinical Nurse Consultant with BaptistCare, specialising in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) across residential aged care services. A qualified IPC Lead, she supports homes to implement best-practice approaches to antimicrobial stewardship, outbreak management, and workforce education. Yvonne has developed a comprehensive suite of practical IPC resources that translate complex standards into accessible tools, strengthening compliance and resident safety.
Yvonne has over a decade of nursing experience across medical, surgical, critical care, endoscopy, and aged care settings. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Canberra and previously worked as a Clinical Care Team Manager.
Guided by a systems approach, Yvonne champions consistent standard precautions, effective PPE use, isolation protocols, robust documentation, and continuous improvement. She is passionate about empowering frontline teams to prevent harm and sustain high-quality, safe care.
