Webinar – A BEACON for novel disease threats

ACIPC is excited to announce that we are holding a Lunch and Learn webinar on Tuesday 19 May at 10:00 am AEST*

*Please note this webinar is scheduled earlier than usual to accommodate our US guest speaker across time zones.
Topic: A BEACON for novel disease threats: Leveraging AI for informal event-based outbreak surveillance
Presenter: Dr Britta Lassman, MD
Description:

Join us for our May Lunch & Learn as we explore BEACON (Biothreats Emergence, Analysis and Communications Network) — an innovative open-access surveillance platform developed at the Boston University Center on Emerging Diseases.

In an era of increasing global health threats, early detection is everything. BEACON harnesses the power of a domain-adapted Large Language Model to support a worldwide network of disease experts in identifying and reporting outbreaks in real time. As an event-based informal surveillance system, it bridges the gap between emerging signals and coordinated public health responses.

This session will walk through how BEACON contributes to the rapid identification of novel disease threats, facilitates timely interventions, and strengthens global health security. Whether you work in public health, infectious disease, or emerging technology, this is an opportunity to see how AI is reshaping outbreak surveillance.

Don’t miss this engaging look at the future of biosurveillance.
