Janine Carrucan – Election Statement

Why I Am Seeking Re-election
I am seeking re-election as a Director of the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control (ACIPC) because I am passionate about continuing to strengthen the College’s role as the peak body for infection prevention and control. I believe strongly in ensuring that ACIPC remains inclusive, member-focused, and responsive to the changing healthcare landscape. My motivation to serve again comes from a desire to build on the progress we have made as a Board and to ensure the College continues to deliver value to its members and the wider community.

Commitment to ACIPC
I have been a financial member since the College’s inception and have always actively contributed to its development. My involvement has included serving as past Chair of the Credentialling Committee, past member of the Membership Engagement and Education Committees, and currently as Chair of the Advanced IPC and Standards Committee. I also serve on the Governance and Risk Committee, where I work collaboratively with Directors and College staff to implement the College’s strategic plan. These roles reflect my long-standing dedication and my determination to keep the College strong, relevant, and forward-looking.

Building Strong Governance
As a current Director, I have strengthened my governance capability through the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) course and remain an active member of both AICD and Women on Boards. These experiences support my ability to contribute effectively to financial oversight, budgeting, risk management, and governance processes. I confirm that I am eligible to act as a Director under ACNC and ASIC requirements. My re-election would allow me to continue applying these governance skills to guide ACIPC with integrity, accountability, and transparency.

Professional Experience and Passion for Patient Safety
In my role as Nursing Director of Infection Prevention and Control in North Queensland, I lead a comprehensive IPC program for a large tertiary referral regional health service. This role requires strategic thinking, critical analysis, and leadership across complex clinical and organisational challenges. I am, above all, a passionate patient safety advocate. Patients are at the centre of every decision I make, and I continually evaluate initiatives for the value they bring to patient care. Seeking re-election allows me to keep championing this patient-focused perspective within ACIPC.

Representation and Advocacy
I also contribute at state and national levels through my roles on the QICN steering committee and as Chair of the Preventing healthcare associations infections working group. These roles enable me to bring strong networks and policy insights to the College. Importantly, I am committed to ensuring the voices of regional, rural, and remote members are heard. Seeking re-election gives me the opportunity to continue advocating for equity, consultation, and representation for all members.

Looking Ahead
I seek re-election to continue the work we have begun as a Board: delivering on the College’s strategic plan, advancing standards of practice, and ensuring ACIPC remains a trusted, respected, and inclusive organisation. With a strong professional profile, governance experience, and unwavering commitment to members and patient safety, I believe I can continue to make a meaningful contribution.
