Join ACIPC IPC Consultant Carrie Spinks for the next ACIPC Aged Care IPC webinar
Date and time: Wednesday, 19 August at 2:00pm AEST.
Topic: Vaccination Program in aged care
Speaker: Geraldine Freriks
This presentation explores the development and implementation of a comprehensive immunisation program within residential aged care, encompassing both residents and staff. The program is structured around two interconnected branches: resident immunisation and workforce immunisation, recognising that effective protection requires a whole-of-facility approach.
The session will outline the key components required to establish and sustain a structured immunisation program. The presentation will also examine governance considerations, program coordination, and strategies to address common challenges such as incomplete immunisation histories, consent complexities, and fragmented documentation systems.
By implementing a structured and well-governed immunisation program, aged care services can reduce vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks, improve resident health outcomes, protect staff, and minimise hospital transfers.
