We have recently identified three residents with Aeromonas spp. infection.

Current controls include:
-Risk-based PPE, Contact precautions for ADLs and exposure to body fluids/faeces and standard precaution at all times
-Ongoing hand hygiene education for residents

Are there any additional infection prevention and control measures we should consider? Also, can anyone advise on reporting requirements for Aeromonas spp. infections in a residential aged care facility?

Management – standard and contact precautions, isolation duration of illness (as possible), transmission precaution cleaning including increased frequency and use of registered neutral detergent and disinfectant. Management of contaminated linen and waste in accordance with WA guidelines. High alert for new cases – both resident and staff. Ensure unwell staff exclusion times.
