Policy – Supporting Breastfeeding Mothers Representing the College
Purpose
The Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control (ACIPC) is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers. This policy outlines the support available to members who are breastfeeding while representing the College at conferences, meetings, and other official events.
Scope
This policy applies to all ACIPC members, board members, and committee representatives attending College-related events, conferences, or meetings.
Policy Statement
ACIPC acknowledges the importance of breastfeeding and is committed to ensuring that breastfeeding mothers can participate fully in College activities. The following provisions will be made available:
- Flexible Travel and Accommodation Arrangements
- Breastfeeding mothers may bring their infant and a carer (such as a partner or support person) when attending College-related events.
- The College will reimburse reasonable travel and accommodation costs for the carer, provided these costs are pre-approved and aligned with the College’s travel policy.
- Access to Suitable Facilities
- Where possible, ACIPC will ensure that events, conferences, and meetings provide private and hygienic spaces for breastfeeding and expressing milk.
- Refrigerated storage facilities will be made available for expressed milk upon request.
- Flexible Scheduling
- Where feasible, meeting schedules and engagements will accommodate breaks to allow time for breastfeeding or expressing.
- Virtual Participation Options
- Breastfeeding mothers who are unable to travel for an event may be supported to participate virtually where appropriate.
- Awareness and Inclusivity
- Members are encouraged to inform the College in advance of any breastfeeding-related requirements to ensure suitable arrangements are made.
Implementation and Review
- This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains aligned with best practices and member needs.
- Any feedback or requests for additional support should be directed to the ACIPC Secretariat.
