International Nurses Day 2026

Today marks International Nurses Day 2026 — celebrated each year on 12 May, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.

This year’s theme is: Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.

IND 2026 focuses on making the structural changes needed to harness the power of the nursing workforce — building on two previous IND reports, The Economic Power of Care and Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies.

The theme highlights the vital role of nurses in improving health outcomes and delivering person-centred primary care that can transform health systems and address the world’s biggest health challenges.
