The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is encouraging aged care providers to improve how they access residents’ vaccination records.
Older people remain at significant risk of serious illness and hospitalisation from preventable diseases like COVID-19 and influenza. One barrier to timely vaccination is difficulty accessing up-to-date immunisation records — but there’s now a practical solution. Facility and clinical managers can apply for their residential care facility to connect directly to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), making it easier to:
- identify residents who are due or overdue for vaccinations
- ensure each person’s vaccination status is accurately recorded.
Keeping vaccinations up to date is a key part of providing high-quality, person-centred care — and something every older person in aged care is entitled to expect.
