Barriers and facilitators to implementing standards for peripheral intravenous catheter care: A descriptive qualitative study of hospital clinicians and policy-makers across Australia

Griffith University Ethics Approval Number HREC/2026/0079

Dear members,

We are writing to invite you to participate in a research project: Investigating barriers and facilitators to implementing clinical standards for peripheral intravenous catheter care in Australia.

This study involves the participation of health care professionals who are:

  • currently practicing in a hospital, and
  • whose role is associated with policy-making or direct care or surveillance for peripheral intravenous catheters.
  • For example: Infection Prevention and Control Clinical Nurse Consultants, Infectious Diseases Physicians, Emergency Physicians, Anaesthetists, Vascular Access Clinical Nurse Consultants and Nurse Practitioners, and bedside doctors and nurses in medical, surgical, critical care, oncology, or other wards.

We are looking for participants who meet the above criteria and would be interested in participating in an interview to discuss implementation of the national ‘Management of Peripheral Intravenous Catheters Clinical Care Standard’ in Australian hospitals. Participation is entirely voluntary. You are under no obligation to agree to participate. If you do participate however, you are free to revoke your consent at any time.

Interviews are estimated to take approximately 30 minutes and will be held online via the Microsoft Teams platform.

The link below invites you to submit an expression of interest form to participate in the study. You will then receive further information via your nominated email.

Please note that this study has been approved by the Griffith Human Research Ethics Committee (approval number HREC/2026/0079).

Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration.
