The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) has released the second edition of its Aged Care Infection Prevention and Control Guide
The Guide helps the aged care workforce, and anyone caring for older people, apply IPC principles in day-to-day practice. It supplements the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare.
Key updates include:
- Application of IPC principles: improved practical application of risk-based IPC approaches
- IPC systems and governance: refined guidance to help providers meet their IPC obligations, including IPC lead roles
- Quality Standards alignment: closer alignment with the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards
- Practical IPC guidance: updated and clarified advice to support implementation in aged care settings
A summary resource is also available as a quick reference to the Guide’s key content.
IPC leads and aged care providers can find the Guide and the summary resource on the Commission’s website.
