Topic: The Evolution of Infection Prevention: Past. Present. Protected.

Join us for our October Lunch & Learn webinar which will take attendees on a journey from the early pioneers of infection prevention and the emergence of the first Infection Control Practitioners, through the development of the evidence, systems and practices that underpin our profession today.

Moving into the present, the presentation will explore the increasingly diverse and often unseen work of modern Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners. Beyond hand hygiene, PPE and outbreak management, IPC now influences areas including environmental safety, vaccine cold chain management, water and air safety, healthcare design and construction, furniture and equipment selection, occupational exposures, auditing and workforce protection.

Looking to the future, the presentation will consider the challenges facing the next generation of IPCPs, including emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, vaccine hesitancy, sustainability, changing healthcare environments and increasing financial pressures. It will also explore an equally important challenge: how we protect and strengthen the infection prevention profession itself.

Attendees will be encouraged to consider the importance of continuing education, credentialling, mentoring and succession planning, as well as the interpersonal skills and credible relationships that enable IPCPs to influence practice in an increasingly mobile healthcare workforce.

By looking at where we have come from, what we do today and what lies ahead, this presentation celebrates the generations of Infection Prevention Practitioners who have shaped our profession — and challenges us to consider what we will leave for those who follow.

About the presenter:

Alissia Reid is an Infection Control Clinical Nurse with Gold Coast Health, with more than 20 years of nursing experience and over 11 years working in IPC. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control and is an ACIPC Advanced Credentialled Infection Control Professional.

Alissia has worked across a range of clinical, education and leadership roles, including acting Clinical Nurse Consultant and Clinical Facilitator. She has a particular passion for education, mentoring and supporting healthcare workers to translate infection prevention principles into everyday clinical practice.

Alissia is also an active member of ACIPC and serves on its Membership Engagement Committee. She is passionate about the evolution of infection prevention and the important role infection prevention professionals play in protecting patients, healthcare workers and the wider community.
