Paediatric SIG July Meeting

You are warmly invited to attend the Paediatric Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting on Tuesday, 28 July 2026 at 2:00 PM AEST.

Event Topic: ‘Safer Together: Enhancing Paediatric Care Through Shared Equipment Safety and Engaging IPC Education’

This session will include two presentations:

1. Georgie Kakoulis – Advanced Nurse Consultant at Women’s and Children’s Health Network, Adelaide who will present ‘Safe management and use of shared toys and therapy equipment in healthcare settings’. Georgie will outline best practice infection prevention and control measures for the safe selection, cleaning, disinfection and storage of shared toys and therapy equipment in healthcare settings. She will highlight strategies to minimise healthcare associated infections while ensuring toys and equipment remain safe, developmentally appropriate and beneficial for paediatric patients.
2. Stephanie Wilcox – Education and Clinical Lead for Infection Prevention and Control at the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission. She will present ‘Making IPC Stick: Practical Strategies for Effective Infection Prevention and Control Education’ which aims to support the following learning outcomes: 1) Identify effective educational strategies to support IPC learning across varied healthcare environments; 2) Apply adult learning principles and interactive teaching approaches to enhance engagement; 3) Evaluate learner understanding and appropriate assessment, feedback, and reflective practice techniques.
   Following the presentations, there will be a discussion and open forum. We invite attendees to ask questions and share their own experiences on the topic. We also welcome other paediatric-related issues for discussion.
